Detectives are tonight making a specific appeal to two people who came to the aid of a distressed woman after she had been assaulted in Banbridge.
Police believe the couple can assist with their ongoing investigation and appealed to themselves – or anyone who knows who they may be – to get in touch.
Detective Sergeant Melanie McGrory explained : “We would like to speak to a couple who were flagged down by a distressed woman in the Newry Street area of Banbridge during the early hours of Friday 31st July.
“The couple, who were not known to the woman, offered her a lift, taking her in their car to Gilford and to the care of people she knew.
“As part of our investigation into a report of an assault on this woman elsewhere in Banbridge earlier that night, we would like to speak to the couple who took her to Gilford.
“I would ask them to please call us on the non-emergency number 101.”
