Parents asked to intervene to curb Keady vandalism

“PARENTS of local youths must take more responsibility for their actions.”

This was the message from local Assembly Member Cathal Boylan, who is pictured viewing damage caused by incidents of vandalism in the Keady area over the weekend.

He was responding to reports from local residents that the area had been the scene of “wanton acts of vandalism” for two weekends running.

Among the damage observed was destroyed street lighting equipment along the pathway to the rear of houses on the Granemore Road. Several light fittings were broken, leaving the area hazardously dark to pedestrians and road users. There was also reckless damage noted to trees and fences along the Armagh Road area of the town and arson damage adjacent to Keady Square.

Mr Boylan has asked those involved to reflect on what they have done and consider the impact their actions were having on others and on the local community.

“Services such as street lighting are essential to the local area to ensure that people can use roads and pathways safely and without fear,” he told Armag I.

“I am appealing to these young people and their parents to ensure this behaviour stops.  It is unfair on the local community and could result in those involved getting a criminal record, something which benefits nobody.”

Mr Boylan also added that contact had been made with the relevant authorities to try and have the damage repaired.
