One dead, one arrested after car accident

Police have confirmed that a 58-year-old male pedestrian has died following a road traffic collision on the Newtown Road, between Newtownhamilton and Belleeks, Co Armagh.

The collision occurred shortly before 5.30pm tonight (Friday).

The 29-year-old female driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of a number of road traffic offences and is currently in custody assisting police with enquiries.

The Newtown Road has been closed between the junctions of Outlacken Road and Carrickrovaddy Road.

Police would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the collision investigation unit at Steeple or police in Newtownhamilton.
