Five further deaths with Newry, Mourne, Down and ABC among worst areas for new Covid cases

There have been five further Covid-related deaths reported in Northern Ireland today (Tuesday).

The total number of deaths now stands at 2,907 – 26 of which occurred in the last seven days.

The ABC Borough accounts for 396 fatalities. There have been 213 in the NMD district, while Mid Ulster accounts for 273.

There have been a further 1,658 positive cases recorded from 4,642 people tested in the last 24 hours, according to the Department of Health’s latest daily dashboard update. There have been 12,519 positive cases in the last seven days, which continues an upward trend.

There were 183 positive cases in Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon – the third highest in NI. There were 218 cases in Newry, Mourne and Down – the second highest – while Mid-Ulster recorded 117. Belfast – the highest in NI – recorded 241 positive cases.

There are 317 patients in hospitals across Northern Ireland as a result of the virus, 35 of whom are in intensive care units.

A total of 200 Covid patients have been discharged in the last seven days while there have been 151 admissions during the same period.

Currently, there are 114 Covid patients in the Southern Trust area, 67 of whom are in Craigavon Area Hospital.

There are five ICU beds available across Northern Ireland.

Hospital occupancy in Northern Ireland currently stands at 105%.
