An emergency Education Authority (EA) schools meals team has been drafted in at Newtownhamilton High School following a positive Covid test reported over the weekend.
The principal, Neil Megaw, informed parents on Sunday that a member of staff from the EA Schools Meals Department, based at Newtownhamilton High School, had tested positive for Covid-19.
As a result all remaining staff must now self-isolate for 14 days.
The limited team have been brought in to help provide food for children entitled to free school meals.
Mr Megaw said: “It is important to note that there is no requirement for staff or pupils from Newtownhamilton High School to self-isolate.
He added that the school’s canteen will be unable to provide morning break or lunch and that pupils should bring a morning snack and packed lunch to school.
“It is noted that our vending machines will still be available to purchase fully school compliant healthy snacks and drinks.
“An emergency EA School Meals team (with limited staffing) has been put in place with immediate effect to cater for pupils entitled to free school meals.
“It is my intention to speak to this team [on Monday] in the hope that they will be able to cater for more pupils over the coming days,” said Mr Megaw.
