The Post Office at Hill Street in Newry is to be upgraded to a ‘main style’ branch.
Newry City Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey has welcomed the news.
“This announcement means that, by early October, we will see a newly refurbished branch providing a modern open plan environment for customers,” he explained.
“There will be longer opening hours and other additional services.
“Unfortunately some inconvenience will be caused due to the closure of the Office from September 23 but people will be well forewarned and hopefully disruption will be to a minimum.”
Councillor Casey added: “Not only will it offer a new-look Post Office that hopefully will create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers, but this news will be welcome by those of us who share concerns about the sustainability of our city centre.”
