Years of campaigning pays dividends with traffic calming measures for Cloughogue estate

After many years of campaigning, traffic calming measures will be introduced through Park View in Cloughogue.

Following a recent meeting with DFI Officials, Sinn Féin MLA for Newry and Armagh Liz Kimmins welcomed confirmation that the department will be implementing the measures.

“Sinn Féin have been lobbying for traffic calming in this area for many, many years and have carried out a number of petitions as well as several site meetings with DFI Officials during this time,” said Ms Kimmins.

“This was one of the first issues I was dealing with when I was first elected as a Sinn Féin Councillor in 2014, and my predecessor Councillor Packie McDonald had been working on it long before me also.

“This is fantastic news for the area and will hopefully see significant safety improvements to this very busy and dangerous road, which will protect this community.

“DFI have said this work will be completed in this financial year and I look forward to hearing more detail on the measures which are being implemented.”

Echoing her colleagues comments, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said: “We are absolutely delighted that this work will finally be done. There are a huge number of young families with children living in this area and it is essential that their safety is paramount.

“The residents of this area have been raising these concerns for a long time and this is certainly a very positive outcome for them.

“Liz and I will continue to keep the community updated as further details of the work and completion dates become available.”
