
A woman accused of murdering a man in Newry over the weekend has appeared in court.
Zivile Geringiene, of no fixed abode in Newry, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, accused of murdering Igors Gavrilovs on Sunday, June 28.
According to the charge sheet the offence “is aggravated by reason of involving domestic abuse”.
The 50-year-old, appeared in the dock, and spoke to confirm her name and date of birth through the use of a Lithuanian interpreter.
A Detective Constable confirmed that she believed she could connect Geringiene to the charge.
Defence barrister, James O’Brien, made no application for bail on behalf of his client.
District Judge Anne Marshall adjourned the case until July 23 for a further update from the prosecution.
The victim, Mr Gavrilovs, who was 40-years-old, sustained a serious injury in the Fisher Park area of the city shortly after 12pm on Sunday.
Emergency services attended the scene at Fisher Park in Newry where medical treatment was administered before he was taken to hospital. He later died from his injuries.
