This stunning fly-through video highlights the ambitious plans develop one of the country’s best parks in Newry.
The multi-million pound re-development of the Albert Basin is being led by architect James McConville, with sponsorship and help from across the local community.
It combines ideas and insights from our extensive public consultation with the Newry population, including local schools, GPs, churches, community organisations, and thousands of local residents.
Brian Cleland, Newry 2020 Chairperson, speaking to Armagh I, said: “We’re really excited by the momentum this project has built it over the last few years, particularly since the council voted to support it last December.
“Much of the work we have done has been about engaging with local people and organisations to make the vision as inclusive as possible.
“The video shows the culmination of four years of consultation and collaboration, and brings together the insights and ideas of thousands of local people.
“We have tried to make sure at every stage that everyone understands this is a community-driven and community-owned project.
“The next stage for the project is delivery, and we are currently in discussions with the council about how that will happen.
“The council has agreed to set up a Task and Finish Group with proper community representation, and that body will oversee the delivery of the park.
“The focus initially will probably be on addressing planning issues and identifying funding sources. Needless to say, everyone on the community side is keen to make this happen as soon as possible.”
