A man tragically passed away while out walking in the Mourne Mountains earlier today (Saturday).
Mourne Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) were tasked to the incident close to the Windy Gap near Slieve Moughanmore shortly before 2pm.
The call came in to assist a walker who had taken ill.
A spokesperson for the MMRT said: “His walking companion and other walkers nearby provided initial assistance until the arrival of the NI Air Ambulance.
“Unfortunately, despite the efforts of all, he was pronounced deceased on scene.
“The team recovered the deceased by stretcher carry and vehicle transfer into the care of undertakers.
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
