Vandalism incident results in withdrawal of Bessbrook’s ‘Busy Bus’ service

Bessbrook busy bus service withdrawn over smashed windows

A bus service which helps elderly and sick residents in the Bessbrook area has been withdrawn following another incident of vandalism.

The Busy Bus service has been withdrawn after a stone was thrown through the window for the second time in recent months.

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor, Declan Murphy, sayys he shares the anger of the local Bessbrook community after the ‘Busy Bus’ service was withdrawn from the area.

“The Busy Bus service was pulled out of Bessbrook as a result of one of its windows being smashed a number of days ago and the same bus attacked again today in the Ardaveen area of Newry.

“There is huge anger locally that this essential service has been withdrawn as a consequence of the actions of a group of young vandals who seem to be hell bent on causing trouble in the area.”

Mr Murphy said there was a need for a multi agency approach to tackle these serious anti social activities.

“At a meeting with the PSNI on Friday, I asked for a multi-agency approach to the criminal activity that has been going on for a considerable amount of time by the same group of people.

“This will include holding their parents to account as the level of neglect is a determining factor.

“People need to feel safe in their homes, going to and coming from work, and using public transport. All agencies need to play their part before someone is seriously hurt.”
