Two men are to appear in court on Wednesday following discovery of £250,000 worth of cannabis in Newry.
The two men, aged 34 and 28, have both been charged with dishonestly using electricity, being concerned in the supply of a Class B drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply and cultivating cannabis.
They are due to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 9.
They were arrested following a proactive search operation at a property in the Canal Street area of the city shortly after 4.40pm on Monday.
Speaking following the arrests, Inspector Gibson said: “Police are committed to making Northern Ireland a hostile environment for those in our community who are involved in the drugs trade, or anyone tempted to become involved should be under no illusion – we will seek to identify them, arrest them and place them before the courts.
“Police continue to encourage members of the public with concerns about drugs or drug dealing to get in touch and enable us to investigate. The number to call is 101. Alternatively, information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
