Two men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following Newry shooting

Two more men have been arrested in connection to a shooting in Newry last week.

Police were called to the Springhill Road area of the town at around midday last Tuesday, February 8 following reports that a man was shot in the legs

The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.

A getaway car was later found burned out on the Old Dublin Road as the perpetrators made off across the border.

Detectives investigating the incident at Carnbane Industrial Estate have today (Monday) detained a 39-year-old and a 27-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The 39-year-old man was subsequently released on bail pending further enquiries.

The 27-year-old man remains in police custody at this time.

A third man, aged 27, arrested last Thursday (February 10) in connection with the incident, was released on bail pending further enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives continue to appeal to anyone with any information or dashcam footage in relation to the incident, to contact them at Ardmore Station on 101, quoting reference number 679 08/02/22.
