Two Newry men appeared in court over the weekend following a burglary at a retail park in the city in the early hours of Friday morning.
James McAteer, 25, of Second Avenue, was charged with burglary, while his co-defendant, 26-year-old Christopher Burns of Parkhead Crescent was also charged with five counts of theft, indecent behaviour and disorderly behaviour following an incident at the Damolly Retail Park shortly before 5am.
Burns was arrested at the scene and charged with thefts of goods totalling in excess of £1,500, including £390 worth of clothing from TK Maxx, £145 worth of electric toothbrushes and £450 in aftershave from B&M Bargains, three pairs of sunglasses to the value of £450 from Specsavers, and steaks from Five Ways Filling Station.
McAteer was apprehended a short time later.
The pair appeared before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court, via videolink from police custody, on Saturday.
They will re-appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 25. They were remanded into custody at Maghaberry in the meantime.
