Three charged after reported assault and linked incidents in Newry

Police investigating reports of an assault and linked incidents in the Camlough Road and Patrick Street areas of Newry on Friday evening (November 7) have charged three people to court.

A 31-year-old man was charged with several offences, including wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

A second man, aged 27, was charged with possession of an offensive weapon with intent to cause an indictable offence and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

A 25-year-old woman was also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

All three were due to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, November 10).

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

A 33-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, who were also arrested as part of the investigation, have been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.

Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Gibson said: “We would like to reassure the local community that we take all reports and incidents of this nature extremely seriously and our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

“We understand that people who were in the area that evening and observed what happened, as well as those living nearby, are very concerned about the events which took place. Our Neighbourhood Policing Team officers are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this, and we believe that there is no ongoing risk to the general public.
