Teenager in court following alleged machete attack on 17-year-old boy

A teenager will appear in court this morning (Thursday) following a machete attack on a 17-year-old boy earlier this week.

Police have charged the 18-year-old with a number of offences including aggravated burglary, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence.

He is due to appear in Banbridge Magistrates’ Court this morning.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

These charges are in connection with an aggravated burglary at a house on Talbot Street in Newry shortly after 2.15am on Tuesday.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital for treatment for an injury to his nose and large cuts to his arm and leg as a result of the incident.
