Monaghan Street in Newry is closed due to a security alert in the area this morning (Thursday).
It comes following the discovery of a suspicious object in the area.
Cordons are in place and the public are asked to avoid the area.
Local MLA Justin McNulty said: “Monaghan Street in Newry evacuated because of an apparent viable pipe bomb. Businesses all forced to close.
“We thought these days were long gone.”
