Staff member held against wall and threatened as men steal phones from Newry shop

A staff member was left badly shaken following a robbery in Newry on Sunday afternoon.

Detectives are appealing for information following a report of robbery from business premises at the Hill Street area of the city.

Shortly after midday, it was reported to police that two men entered a shop in the area.

It was reported that one of the men pushed a male member of staff up against a wall and showed him a large piece of metal in his possession and asked to open a nearby till.

The men then made off from the shop with a number of mobile phones following the incident. The staff member, although not injured, was left badly shaken.

Detective Inspector Johnston said: “Our enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who may have any information that may assist with the investigation, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 639 01/09/24.

“We would also advise anyone who is offered to purchase a mobile phone in suspicious circumstances, to contact police. Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
