Road reopens following collision on A1 in Newry

Emergency services are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision in Newry this morning (Saturday).

The A1 Northbound is closed after the Forkhill Road off slip.

Police are saying the closure may remain in place for some time.

All traffic is being diverted off at the Forkhill Road off slip.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area this morning.

A statement sent from the Department for Infrastructure’s Traffic Information and Control Centre (TICC) at around 5.30am said: “The A1 Newry is currently closed just before Cloughog due to a multi vehicle collision involving several cars and an airbus.”

8.20AM update: The road has since reopened.
