Residents who do not respond to assisted bin lift audit letter will be ‘struck off’

Assisted lift service users must respond by June 1 or be removed from lift

Residents who do not respond to a letter issued on an assisted bin lift service will no longer be able to avail of it unless they reply.

The assisted bin lift operating in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is also known as a ‘back door collection’ and is currently subject to an audit.

Letters have been sent to all of those who currently receive the service.

People who still require the assisted bin lift are being asked not to ignore the letter but ensure they reply and ahead of the deadline.

Newry Mourne & Down Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Ruane said: “Council have written to all on their records who are receiving this service asking them to confirm that they still require it.

“Should a person still require it they must fill in the form and return it by June 1.

“If the council do not receive a returned form, it will take it that the bin lift is not required and they will lose the service.

“Many householders require this service from our council. It is important that they can access it.

“Anyone who has concerns or require more information should feel free to contact myself or any of my colleagues or the council waste team directly at 0330 0013 2233.
