burglary

Three men attempting to break into a house in Newry made off after being disturbed by the resident’s son in the early hours of Friday morning.

The disturbing incident occurred in the Daragh Park area of Newry around 1.30am.

City Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte has urged residents to be vigilant.

She said she had been contacted by the resident in Daragh Park – a potential would-be victim of a nasty crime.

“Three males tried to gain entry to the back garden of the property from the dual carriageway on the Warrenpoint Road,” explained Councillor Harte.

According to the resident, the men fled when they were confronted by their son.

Councillor Harte concluded: “This was a very worrying incident for the family.

“I would urge residents to be vigilant and ensure that their properties are kept secure at all times. If anyone notices any type of suspicious activities they should report it to the Police immediately.”
