Police name Newry crash victim – 38th person to die on NI roads this year

A man who tragically lost his life in a one-vehicle road traffic accident in Newry on Sunday morning has been named.

He was 57-year-old Martin Harvey from the Newtownards area.

The collision happened on the Fathom Line at around 11.30am on Sunday.

The road was closed for a time following the crash but reopened on Sunday evening.

Sinn Féin’s Mickey Brady said there is a deep sadness at news of yet another fatality on the local roads.

The MP said: “News of yet another tragic death on our roads has deeply saddened the local community.

Mr Harvey was the 38th person to lose their lives on Northern Ireland roads this year – the sixth motorcyclist.

Officers would ask anyone who was travelling on the Fathom Line and who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage which could assist them with their enquiries, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 621 23/09/18.
