Police investigating burglary of ‘hugely respected’ Newry family

Police are investigating the report of a burglary at a house in Newry on Tuesday evening.

It is believed that entry was gained to the property in the Violet Hill Avenue area of the city sometime between 7pm and 8.50pm on Tuesday evening.

However, nothing is believed to have been taken at this time.

Councillor Gavin Malone, speaking following the incident last night, said: “This evening, I have been notified about a house burglary at Violet Hill Avenue, Newry the victims being a long established hugely respected family.

“I would like to condemn this despicable act and on the back of other recent incidents within the community I ask residents to be very vigilant.”

Police have asked for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area on Tuesday evening, or who has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries, to contact police at Ardmore station on 101, quoting reference number 1868 31/01/23 or online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.
