Police appeal after masked man armed with knife robs Newry business

A man who threatened staff with a knife in Newry last night (Wednesday) made off with a sum of cash.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a report of an armed robbery at a commercial premises on Canal Street in Newry on Wednesday (February 28).

It was reported that at around 9.30pm, a masked male entered a shop in the area with a knife and demanded cash from a member of staff.

The male left the premises with a sum of cash after threatening the staff member. He is believed to have made off in a light coloured saloon type vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Bell is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Ardmore Police Station on 101 quoting reference 1434 of 28/02/18.

Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.
