Pictures show devastation as hair salon ‘absolutely wrecked’ after stolen car crashes into shutters

The devastated owner said: 'We had just finished redecorating ready for reopening again when the restrictions ease. At a guess the damage will run close to £10,000'

A Newry hairdresser has been left devastated after her salon was “absolutely wrecked” when a stolen car ploughed through the shutters.

Carmel Dooley, who owns Mane Attraction Unisex Hair Salon, at Whitegates, on the Killeavy Road, was informed of the scene of devastation this morning.

The vehicle crashed into the closed shutters, bringing down bricks and mortar and destroying equipment and other items inside.

It was later found burned out on the Killeavy Road.

Carmel told Armagh I she had been making preparations to get up and running again when the lockdown is lifted.

She said: “We have been closed from 24th December with the restrictions at the moment and we had just finished redecorating ready for reopening again when the restrictions ease.

“At a guess the damage will run close to £10,000.

“The police arrived to the house at 6.30am this morning to make us aware.

“Things are hard enough for small businesses at the minute who are closed for 10 weeks so this is obviously the last thing we needed.”

Anyone who has any information on the incident is asked to get in touch with the PSNI in Newry on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed in confidence to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
