Pedestrian struck by Land Rover on Armagh Road in Newry critical in hospital

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a Land Rover in Newry on Tuesday evening.

Police are appealing for information following the collision which happened just after 6pm in the Armagh Road area.

It involved a black Land Rover and a male pedestrian.

The pedestrian, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital by colleagues from Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, where he remains in a critical condition.

The road, which was closed following the incident, has since re-opened.

Inspector Frances McCullough said: “I am appealing to anyone with information, and in particular anyone who may have captured dash cam footage, to contact us on 101 quoting reference 1437 of 30/11/21.”

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service commented: “We received a 999 call at 6.55pm on
Tuesday following reports of an incident in the Armagh Road area, Newry.

“NIAS despatched one emergency crew and one doctor to the incident. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”
