Over £86,000 of illicit prescription drugs seized in South Armagh

Illicit prescription drugs with an estimated street value of £86,400 have been seized this week in Newry, Mourne and Down, it has been confirmed.

Officers from Ardmore Local Policing Team’s D-Section and Slieve Gullion Neighbourhood Team – which covers the South Armagh area – and the District Support Team made the sizeable seizure of illicit prescription, class C drugs.

District Commander, Superintendent Norman Haslett said: “Every day, we’re striving to keep local people safe, and that includes all-out efforts to tackle the illegal supply of drugs and the inevitable fallout.

“We’ve seen the devastation that illicit drugs bring. Drugs which haven’t been prescribed by your doctor, or are taken in a way not advised by your doctor, simply aren’t safe. There’s also the very real issue of counterfeit drugs, whose unknown components can be deadly.

“Right across the country, we’re working with partners on the Organised Crime Task Force to tackle the scourge of drugs and here, at a local level, we’re relying upon your support. Please contact us with any information, or concerns.

“You can call us on 101, or alternatively contact the charity Crimestoppers, who guarantee total anonymity, on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
