Two wards have been closed in Daisy Hill Hospital after the outbreak of a vomiting and diarrhoea bug.
The Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT)has confirmed that there have been a number of cases of vomiting and diarrhoea amongst patients in two wards at Daisy Hill Hospital.
It is understood that the fourth and fifth floors of the Newry hospital have been partially closed off to help combat the spread of the virus.
The SHSCT confirmed that to help prevent the spread of infection, the two wards are currently closed to new admissions and full infection control measures have been implemented.
A spokesperson for SHSCT said: “These wards remain fully operational, and care and treatment continues to be provided to patients.
“Visiting has also been temporarily suspended on both wards to help prevent the spread of infection.
“The situation will continue to be reviewed and appropriate action taken to protect everybody in the affected wards.”
The Trust has also issued a general appeal to visitors to limit the spread of this common virus: “We are appealing to people to help prevent the further spread of infection by only visiting the Hospital if they really need to; restricting visiting to designated visiting times and using the alcohol hand rub provided.
“We also urge people not to visit if they or someone in their household has symptoms of cold, flu, vomiting or diarrhoea.”
