Police have sealed off a busy Newry route this afternoon (Monday) due to an ongoing security situation.
Ashgrove Road has been closed in both directions, with officers warning the closure is expected to remain in place for a “significant amount of time”.
Motorists are being urged to seek alternative routes and to avoid the area while the operation continues.
A police spokesperson said the search is being carried out after information was received which suggested a device may have been left in the area.
Local road closures are in place and members of the public should follow any directions given by police.
If a member of the public finds anything untoward; please do not touch it and report it right away.
