Police received a report of an attempted arson at a property in the Craigmore View area of Newry around 11:30am on Saturday.
The occupant reported hearing a bang shortly before 1am on Friday, 10th April and upon checking the area in daylight damage has been observed to the house.
Later that afternoon, the occupant of the property reported having been assaulted by a male with a bat.
Officers attended and arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.
He has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
