A new women’s health hub has opened at Daisy Hill Hospital offering rapid access for gynaecological and early pregnancy support.

Located on the third floor of the hospital, the hub which is staffed by gynaecologists, obstetricians, specialist nurses and midwives, aims to make sure that women get the most suitable care in the right place, as quickly as possible.

The Rapid Access Gynaecology Clinic takes referrals each morning Monday to Friday, from the emergency department or GPs for women who may have gynae related pain, menorrhagia (bleeding), abscesses, hyperemesis or post surgery issues. The team offers assessment, observation, treatment and will arrange further care, such as an outpatient appointment if needed.

The Early Pregnancy Problem Clinic supports women experiencing problems in pregnancy up until their booking scan. The team takes referrals from GPs, Community Midwives or patients directly, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am – 12.30pm Tel: 028 3756 2754 or 028 3756 2755. Women experiencing heavy bleeding or severe abdominal pain outside of these hours should ‘Phone First’, Urgent Care Out of Hours, or attend ED.

Congratulating the team on their new service, Wendy Clarke, Interim Assistant Director of Integrated Maternity and Women’s Health for the Southern Trust, said:

“We are absolutely delighted at this latest development to further improve maternity and gynaecology services at Daisy Hill. Previously the only option available for women with unscheduled gynae or early pregnancy issues, was to attend the ED, which we know is not the most ideal setting at such a worrying time. These new services now offer women quick access to specialised gynae and obstetric care and reassurance, in a more suitable, dedicated environment.”
