Man threatens staff with knife during shop robbery

Incident happened at 6.30pm on Saturday

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following the report of a robbery at commercial premises in a shopping centre in the Killeavy Road area of Newry.

Shortly before 6.30pm on Saturday, February 3, a man, armed with a knife, entered the premises and demanded money from a member of staff.

He left the store with a sum of money.

The member of staff was not injured, however they were left very badly shaken.

Detective Sergeant James Johnston said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone who has information that may assist with police enquiries, to contact detectives at Newry on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1039 03/02/18.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
