Man is his 50s dies after motorcycle crash in Newry

A man in his 50s has tragically died following a a motorcycle crash in Newry this morning.

The road traffic collision happened on the Fathom Line at around 11.30am on Sunday.

Police have confirmed that only one vehicle was involved.

The road remains closed while investigations are conducted at the scene.

Officers would ask anyone who was travelling on the Fathom Line and who witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage which could assist them with their enquiries, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 621 23/09/18.

Sinn Féin’s Mickey Brady said there is a deep sadness at news of yet another fatality on the local roads.

The MP said: “News of yet another tragic death on our roads has deeply saddened the local community.

“Any death on our roads is one to many.

“I want to express my sympathy to the family and friends of the man who has lost his life at this sad and difficult time”.

There are no further details at this stage.
