Man in high-speed getaway threw number plates out window

A man interrupted by police made off at high speed while chucking number plates out the window.

Police in are investigating the incident where a man was interrupted pulling number plates from a white Mercedes at Martins Lane in Newry.

This incident occurred on Wednesday at around 3.10pm.

The offender got into a grey Toyota, Irish reg vehicle, 05-G-11211.

He was chased and threw the number plates out of his window before getting away at speed.

A subsequent check with Gardaí colleagues showed this registration plate was registered to a different car.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “These people are obviously planning on using these plates in later operations.

“If you have any information in relation to this incident phone 101 and quote serial 792 of 13/02/2018.

“Or if you see this vehicle around Newry area please contact Police and let us know where it is, as we’re keen to speak with the current owner.”
