A man has been arrested after a van, stolen in Banbridge, was found crashed into a wall in Warrenpoint on Tuesday morning.
Inspector Connolly said: “We received a report at around 8.50am of a burglary at a property in the Dublin Road area of Banbridge.
“Officers attended the scene, where a window to the rear of the house had been smashed. It was also reported that a van and several sets of other vehicle keys had been stolen.
“Officers working across the Banbridge, Armagh and Newry policing districts worked together to locate the stolen van, which police observed travelling in the Warrenpoint area.
“Members of the public also assisted officers at to the whereabouts of the van, as we received reports in relation to its movements, which ultimately resulted in our officers being able to arrest the suspect.
“The van was subsequently located a short time later in the Oak Grange area of Warrenpoint, where it had driven into a wall.
“A man in his thirties was detained by police after a short foot chase and arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to the vehicle, dangerous driving, assault on police, resisting police, burglary with intent to steal and driving with excess alcohol in breath.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who might have any information which could assist us – including dash-cam or other footage – to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 336 of 16/06/26.”
