A man has been arrested following a stabbing incident in Newry on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives arrested the man following an incident at a house in the Cois Locha area of of the city.
Shortly after 4pm police received reports a 25-year old-man had been assaulted.
The man is being treated in hospital for stab injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening as a result of this and a 48-year-old male is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector James Mullen said: “I would ask anyone who may have witnessed this assault or may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact Detectives at Newry on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 762 14/03/17.
“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
