Man airlifted to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ after mountain bike accident

Mourne Mountain Rescue Team confirms details of operation

A man has sustained serious injuries after an incident in the Mourne Mountains.

It happened shortly before 3.30pm this afternoon (Saturday).

The injured man had been taking part in a mountain biking event.

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team sent 14 members to the assistance of the man.

They and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service took over after initial First Aid had been provided by the St John Ambulance unit providing cover at the event.

The Air Ambulance was also tasked to the scene and the man was airlifted to hospital.

The injured man had been stretchered to the Air Ambulance after receiving treatment at the scene.

The incident was stood down at 6.30pm.

The Mourne Mountain Rescue Team praised the “great teamwork” involved with their colleagues in the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, NI Air Ambulance, St John Ambulance and PSNI.
