In Pictures: Chairperson supports local charities with Charity Ball

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage has been raising vital funds for the four charities that he has chosen to support during his year in office.

On Friday, February 3, over 300 guests turned out in their finery for the Chairperson’s Charity Ball at the Canal Court Hotel, Newry where they enjoyed a fantastic evening of food and entertainment provided by some of the best of our local musicians.

Kevin McAllister, Downtown Radio, was master of ceremonies for the evening event.

In his opening address, Councillor Savage welcomed guests, representatives from each of the four charities and sponsors.

“I am delighted to host this evening to raise vital funds for four exceptional charities that work right at the heart of our community; The Southern Area Hospice, Society of Saint Vincent De Paul, Suicide Down to Zero and The Simon Community.

“Each of these charities work tirelessly all year round to support struggling families and individuals in need. They always go the extra mile to make a difference in our community and it is my honour to support them during my year as Chairperson.

“At this time, the current cost of living crisis has had a profound impact on their donations, and they need our help more than ever. This evening is an opportunity to show our support for their services and to make a difference!”

Councillor Savage also extended a special thank you to sponsors Regen, Norbrook, Keltbray Group and EDB Developments for their invaluable financial contribution towards the event and encouraged guests to dig deep.

“I am appealing to your generosity and asking for your help to support my chosen charities tonight – every contribution that you make, however big or small, will go directly to each of the causes to help them to continue their work in the community.”
