This was horrifying scene which greeted a local resident close to Newry earlier today (Wednesday).
A number of severed pigs’ heads were discovered in a field in the Clontifleece area.
Independent councillor Mark Gibbons, who said the sight of the deceased mutilated pigs had “shaken me to my core”, has blasted those responsible.
“Sadly these images are not the part of a sick April Fools joke,” he said.
“These distressing images (that have been blurred out) are of severed pigs heads that have been dumped in the Clontifleece area, of our beautiful countryside.
“To say that I am disgusted and horrified would be an understatement, and I would like to sincerely thank the local resident who contacted me regarding this issue.”
Councillor Gibbons said he has contacted Council and the relevant agencies to clean up “this awful scene as soon as possible”.
“I have seen a lot in my first term in Council, but this today has shaken me to my core and it will never be forgotten,” he added.
“We are dealing with enough at the moment as a community. We certainly don’t need to see barbaric behaviour like this on our doorstep.”
