Funeral director ‘disgusted’ as ‘wake sign’ stolen from outside grieving family’s home

'We would appeal for this to be returned immediately'

Sick thieves have stolen a funeral director’s sign from outside a wake house in Newry.

The sign had been put in place at Mourneview Park to direct mourners to the home.

But thieves have made off with the sign in a disgusting act on Saturday evening.

Family-owned Pouchers Funeral Directors have appealed for information.

They say they have been “disgusted and sickened” by the theft.

They said: “This is not only an attack on our family business that has been serving this community for over 32 years but it’s an attack on our own community.

“At this incredibly tough time for the grieving community of residents, friends and family, this is definitely not what they need.

“We would appeal for this to be returned immediately and for parents to have words with their children about this sort of disgusting behaviour.

“Please call us with any information 02830267585. Or contact the police on 101 quote ref 1267 of 10/11/18.”
