Firefighters successfully tackle gorse fire at Flagstaff Viewpoint

Fire at Flagstaff Viewpoint in South Armagh

A gorse fire was successfully brought under control in south Armagh earlier this afternoon (Monday).

Firefighters reacted quickly to stop the flames from spreading any further at Flagstaff Viewpoint.

The incident was reported at 3.07pm and by 4pm the incident was dealt with.

A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said: “One appliance from Newry Fire Station and one from Crossmaglen Fire Station attended the incident.

“We were alerted to reports of a small gorse fire at Flagstaff Newry. Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. The incident was dealt with by 4pm.”

There was no indication as to whether the fire was deliberate or not at this stage.
