Equipment vandalised as school say £400,000 community pitch being ‘gradually destroyed’

Vandalism St Joseph's High School in Newry

A Newry school say they are gutted that a £400,000 community pitch and equipment has been vandalised just before the end of term.

St Joseph’s High School tweeted: “The summer term isn’t even over and already our school grounds have been hit by acts of vandalism.

“Our new portable nets and ball stops have been ripped and torn.

“The stanchions on both our goals have been broken off and left to rust.

“Our £400,000+ community pitch is being gradually destroyed by members of our community #gutted.”

Newry City Sinn Fein councillor Charlie Casey said: “This act is not only an act of anti social vandalism on our School but is also an attack on our community.

“I urge anyone involved in such selfish acts, to stop.”
