An employment dispute at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) is running in to its second month as talks fail to reach agreement.

Members of GMB, NIPSA, and SIPTU took action from April 10, with Unite joining the work to rule from April 12.
Normal services returned at NMDDC on April 24, though Labour Relations Agency (LRA) talks this week (May 10) have not resolved matters.

A council spokesperson said: “Talks facilitated by the LRA were held on Wednesday 10 May 2023, with the next LRA facilitated conciliation meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 24 May 2023.”

The local authority employees continue to claim the Council has reneged on a commitment to a partnership-based job evaluation process.

A spokesperson for the Trade Unions previously indicated to the Local Democracy Service that they would consider their position to reinstate industrial action if talks with the council failed.
