Police can confirm that a woman, aged in her 90s, has died following a fire at a house in Bay View in Jonesborough last night, Sunday 22 January.
Police received a report of a fire at a house shortly after 7.30pm.
Emergency Services attended but unfortunately the woman was found deceased at the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the fire, which is not believed to be suspicious, has now commenced.
“This is a deeply tragic event and my thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased victim, who was very well known and respected in the local area,” commented MLA Megan Fearon.
Her colleague local councillor Mickey Larkin speaking after visiting the scene said: “The victim was a respected and popular member of the Jonesborough community. The whole community is shocked by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased.”
