Driver walks away from Newry crash uninjured – second vehicle fails to stop

The driver of this van miraculously walked away without suffering serious injuries on Friday night.

The two-vehicle crash occurred on the Greenan Road between Newry and Warrenpoint.

The driver of the other vehicle failed to stop at the scene!

Independent councillor Mark Gibbons shared the images as a warning for drivers to remain vigilant on our roads, especially as temperatures drop.

“Thankfully the driver escaped from the van unhurt, but the really shocking thing about this incident is that the driver of the other vehicle didn’t even stop,” he said.

“Thank God the owner of the van has walked away from this horrible incident and is home with his young family for Christmas in Rostrevor, but things could have been far worse. It doesn’t even bear thinking about.

“Please drive carefully folks, especially during the winter holidays.

“It is also incredibly important that people take responsibility for their actions, like the vast majority of us do everyday.

“This was simply reckless in every sense of the word.”

Police are investigating the incident.
