Cloughoge house fire: Man arrested on suspicion of murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal house fire on the outskirts of Newry last week.

Jimmy Thompson, who was 62, died as a result of smoke inhalation following the incident at Parkview, Cloughoge late last Friday night.

Another man is in hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 42-year-old man was today (Wednesday) arrested on suspicion of murder.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The fire, which was reported to police at around 11:40pm, is being treated as deliberate.

“The 42 year old remains in police custody at this time.”

There are no further details at this stage.
