Cars set on fire and van robbed in night of destruction in south Armagh estate

Incident happened around 4am on Friday morning

Two cars were set on fire and a work van robbed in a south Armagh housing estate overnight.

Detectives in Newry are appealing for witnesses following an arson attack on two cars in Forkhill during the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Shortly before 4am it was reported that flammable liquid had been poured over a Vauxhall Corsa parked in Park Urney and set on fire.

A second car that was parked close also caught fire after the first car rolled into it.

Both cars sustained extensive damage as a result.

A transit van parked in the area was also broken into and a number of tools stolen.

Detective Sergeant Peter Stewart said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone who has information which may assist police enquiries, to contact Detectives at Ardmore on 101, quoting reference 127 of 11/08/17.

“Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
