Car set on fire outside Newry home

A car was deliberately set on fire outside a property in Newry in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Detectives are appealing for information following the report of arson at the Chancellors Hall area of the city shortly before 1am.

Detective Sergeant Lewis said: “At around 00:55am, it was reported that a black coloured Volkswagen Tiguan which was parked in the area was set alight. The vehicle was substantially damaged, with light fixtures and the frame of a front window of a nearby property also damaged during the incident. Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, who were in attendance, dealt with the fire.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and we would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the incident, is asked to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 51 10/09/24.
