Two men accused of dragging a woman from her car and hijacking it in Banbridge have appeared in court.
The two Newry men appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Friday following scenes which were described as “pandemonium” by police.
Around 5.40pm on Wednesday evening it was reported that a woman was dragged from her silver Toyota Corolla by two men who then went on a rampage through the town, crashing into a pregnant woman before coming to an abrupt halt on the Newry Road.
Stephen McGrath (33), of Ardcarn Park, and Dominic McGrath (26), of Iveagh Crescent appeared in the dock charged with the hijacking, as well as aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to two other cars, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, dangerous driving and assaulting police.
Both are also accused of stealing a charity box belonging to Alzheimer’s NI from a location in Banbridge prior to the motoring offences.
A PSNI officer dealing with the case confirmed to the court that they could connect the charges to both defendants.
Both men were remanded in custody to appear by video-link at Banbridge Magistrates’ Court next month.
