Assault probe after child (9) hit and burnt by firework in Newry retail park

A 9-year-old child was injured after being struck by a firework in Newry on Halloween night.

Police are investigating the incident which occurred in the Damolly Retail Park at approximately 6pm on Thursday, October 31.

A police spokesperson said: “Sadly another child has been injured this Halloween through the use of fireworks.

“Police in Newry are appealing for a witnesses to an assault on Halloween night, where an innocent 9-year-old child was struck by a lit firework thrown into the area of Damolly Retail Park causing a burn mark to his torso.

“If anyone was in the area of Damolly Retail Park on Thursday, October 31 at around 6pm and witnessed this incident or has any information which can help with the investigation, please get in contact with Police on 101 quoting ref: 1318 31/10/24.”
